Kristin Bonett  /  Body Type

Intrigued by anatomy and physiology, this typeface was designed as a homage to the intricacies of the human body. The type specimen poster is representative of the style anatomical documentation. If existing only as letters, there is no cohesion, but, like the human body, if all systems are put together the letters are easily seen as such.

Greg Cole  /  Liberty Book Covers

I was asked to create a uniform, bold, and memorable visual system. Black and white images paired with yellow text not only creates a loud message that stands out on the shelves, it also suggests the gravity of the books that deal with contemporary topics and issues. Images were carefully chosen and manipulated in order to convey the topics of the book. For example, The Shock Doctrine is an attack on Friedman economics and therefore the book cover attacks the man by placing the actual bar code of the book over his snarling face.

Limited to a black and white palette for reproduction purposes, the poster was used to advertise a show put on by a set of musicians. The dog image arrived from the nature of the two friends who play in the band. The hand drawn image and type was used to emphasize the playfulness of the show..

The theme "Back to the Basics," using main elements from their label and exemplifies their brand strength.

Alexis Cummins  /  Mapping Communication

This project consisted of developing content for a book that exemplified mapping. I began by examining my daily communication throughout an argument with a friend throughout a week. To illustrate the communication, I used a circular graph to show where particular emotions were repeated, and used ink at varying intensity to depict my emotions and my friends. Ultimately the layers produces a graphical representation of what each of us were feeling, when, and what communications drove a particular emotion.

Consistent with Oak Park Stage's commitment to both avant garde and classical theater, this branding utilizes a "Neon Rococo" aesthetic. Dramatic projection is a consistent theme, from the screen-printed neon pattern to the text arrangements, which emphasize the projecting voices of actors.

Melissa Macarian  /  Zine

This zine depicts the everyday process of transforming from a solid to a liquid in an abstract way. The viewer begins the journey as a solid that gradually breaks down as the pages turn. The center spread serves as the climax where rigid solid is at the cusp of beginning its change into a flexible, flowing liquid.

Delane Meadows  /  Bella Suola, Branding and Catalog

Bella Suola is a shoe catalog that features handmade leather Italian sandals. The concept behind the catalog is to give American women the chance to discover these rare treasures of Italy, and even romanticize about traveling there themselves. The identity of the catalog echoes the emotions and mood of Italy, as well as it’s history, dynamic culture, and gorgeous scenery. The logo is graceful and luxurious, but handmade to reflect the sandal’s authenticity.

Delane Meadows  /  Muted, Peter Saville’s Exhibition Catalog

Muted illustrates the significance of how Saville’s album art overshadows the music they contain. The exhibition displays ten album covers that compares five from the 1980’s and five from the 1990’s. The overall catalog concept and design is based on an album’s structure and Saville’s recent feelings towards cover art. The catalog has a side A and side B, each consisting of five album covers and an interview with Saville during that time period.

Jaymes Moore  /  Consomme

Consomme is a multi-faceted, conceptual identity for an exhibition of graphic designer, Pierre Bernard. The theme of the exhibition is the shared issues of consumption and capitalism in the United States and France. Each piece is chosen for its relevant content and assigned to a French/English cognate to imply a shared, bi-lingual interpretation. The type for the catalog cover is created from bouillon cubes that were photographed in boiling water, dissolving over time to illustrate consumption. The gallery is based on Gothic ambulatories to allow for an easy flow through the space.

Jaymes Moore  /  HI VIS (HIV Visual Impact Sculpture)

This interactive project is designed to visually engage a public that has become numb on the issue of HIV. The impact of the large letterforms confronts the bystander with the issue head on. The central part of the red positive sign is constructed with translucent plexi glass, whose form is completed with the attachment of red condoms. As people interact with the piece by removing condoms, the "+" turns into a "-", visually illustrating the impact of one's individual effort on the bigger issue. The project received accolades from the HIV researchers at UF. Other universities have already made contact expressing interest in spreading the project nationwide.

Jaymes Moore  /  Pitch It

Pitch It is a designer/client based card game for those interested in the competitive aspect of design. It is also an introduction to graphic design's past and present in the form of real world designers and clients. Each designer is rated in three categories (concept, typography, and illustration), based on real life strong points. The ratings are graphically represented on the cards through a face-measuring diagram. Concept is represented by the space between the eyes and ears (inside thinking), typography between the eyes and the mouth (visual language), and illustration between the eyes (visual representation).

Jaymes Moore  /  Relimn

Relimn is a concept for an experimental video collective that challenges the medium in exploration of the synchronic and diachronic interpretations of media. This piece of collateral material is a "catalog of experiences" designed to confront the challenge of ethically promoting a body of video work to a distributor without the appearance of "selling". The catalog physically represents a mini DV tape that the reader unsheathes and breaks open to reveal a printed representation of the visual experience of video.

Sara Nicely  /  Cardstock

Cardstock is a game that consists of a deck of 52 cards. This game contains all of the same rules that a typical deck of cards holds, however in this game four different paper colors substitute the four different suits, and two different paper types (smooth or textured) substitute the colors black and red in a traditional card deck. The purpose of the game is to promote the knowledge of different types of paper.

Stephen Rockwood  /  Americana Book Covers

This series of book covers embodies our country’s “Americana” aesthetic in a traditional manner. I wanted to give these books a typographic brand that could work both as a series, and as individual entities.

Stephen Rockwood  /  HAAM Benefit Day (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians)

During an internship at Idea City in Austin, TX, I was assigned to design the graphics for this year’s HAAM Benefit Day (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians). The event includes live music, 5% of the day’s proceeds from local businesses, and an opening day speech from the city mayor. The imagery and color palette play are meant to be loud and eye-catching, similar to the music scene happening in Austin.

Laila Simonovsky  /  Plural: An exhibition on systems

Plural is a concept for an exhibition showcasing work by designer Bruce Mau. The exhibition’s identity and catalog reflect the definition and function of complex systems, an idea omnipresent in Mau’s projects. Reflecting his philosophy on the inseparable connections that exist between design and the world, the catalog's form imitates a system itself by consisting of a double-sided tri-fold that holds two different booklets of the featured work. All the components of the piece interact and it’s necessary to explore the catalog as a whole to understand each of its parts. The imagery alludes to the universe, the most recognizable complex system.

Viktoria Wahl  /  Book Branding

Liberty Books needed a visual system that would unify its books, attract readers and boost its performance on the shelves. My solution is a set of very simple and clear cover designs that feature a single bold interactive element that embodies each title in a physical way and creates a more personal connection between the customer and the book. For example, the title The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman is revealed by peeling back a two-dimensional Earth sticker.
